Senior Citizen Food and Dieting

Food is a remaining pleasure. I forget what the others are. ;-}

Seniors may cook more at home because they have more time, home-cooked meals taste better, are more nutritious and better for them, or because they have less money.

When we are work every day, we can come home and not have the time, or are too tired, to cook. In retirement, we can devote more time to cooking. Cooking is a good way to spend some quality time three or four times a day.

Home-cooked meals taste better than prepared dinners, some cooks excepted. Frozen dinners have come a long way and are better than they used to be, but some taste is really missing or never was there. The texture of home-cooked meals is almost always better than frozen dinners.

With home-cooked meals you have more control of ingredients such as fat and salt, and you can use fresh ingredients high in nutrition and taste. What do you really know about what's in prepared foods? They are made to last, to look good, and to taste good after they've been around for a while.

You save a lot of money cooking at home. You can buy ingredients on sale, or stock up on those that keep well and that you use often. Some supermarkets are consistently cheaper to shop at, even with sales at the other places. Going out to eat at a restaurant is a treat, but it is expensive.
